Polisens insatser mot narkotikasmugglare omkring Gibraltarsund har intensifierats betydligt under det senaste året. Resultaten är dessvärre bara att fler smugglare i stället väljer att ta kuststräckan vid Estepona och Marbella i strävan efter att få i land sina försändelser för distribution till övriga Spanien och Europa. Detta har lett till en del surrealistiska händelser, då smugglare, mitt på ljusan dag, anländer kustens stränder i speedbåtar fyllda med narkotika som snabbt lastas över till väntande bilar. En liknande situation uppstod igår i Marbella. Men där förföljdes smugglarna av en polishelikopter och smugglarna valde därför att tända eld på lasten. Detta skedde som sagt mitt på dagen, framför ett par hundra förvånade strandgäster.
